Semi-Grown Kids – Wonderful Wednesday
April 6, 2016An important element of mixing and matching wardrobe pieces is learning to wear a standard piece in different ways. Today, I want to show you an easy way to tie a button-up shirt at the waist.
Tie A Button Up Shirt
When it comes to fashion over 40, bulk is one thing that I try to eliminate at all cost. Tying a button-up over a longer shirt is a great way accentuate the waist while still keeping a long line underneath. This draws the eye up-and-down instead of side-to-side.
However, you typically end up with a heavy roll of material when you try to bunch it up to tie at the waist. The last thing we want is extra volume around the waist! So, I came up with a simple trick to tie a button up shirt at the waist without bunching up the excess fabric.
You can see that the end result lies flat against the body with adding one inch to the waistline. It also sits smoothly across the back, so it’s a lot more flattering.
I love thinking of creative ways to make all kinds of clothing work for women over 40. Do you have a fashion question or concern? If so, I would love to help you come up with a solution. Feel free to ask me a question in the comments or get in touch with my comment form.

If I would just take the time instead of always being in a hurry. This will make me stop and take the time to make sure it’s neat. Thanks for the tips.
Taking just a tad more time makes a big difference and the shirt feels so much better when it’s tied this way. Thanks for stopping by, Jayne.
You shirt looks great tied! And wearing clothes different ways is a great way to add variety to your outfits without actually adding more clothes!
Exactly Andrea, it’s amazing how much mileage you can get out of your wardrobe when you wear items different ways.
