Black Jersey Sheath For Casual Elegance
October 4, 2016Layering And Levels
October 11, 2016I have resisted the pull of Palazzo pants for some time now. Admittedly, they look extremely comfortable and I have seen them worn in a lot of different places, but I didn’t think they were for me.
Typically, I go for tailored styles and shy away from any style that may add volume. However, when I saw these Palazzo pants in my favorite colors of red, white and black I decided to give them a try.
Palazzo Pants
I actually love this outfit because it’s still sleek and streamlined despite the volume of the pants. The key to a successful outfit was allowing the pants to be the star of the show. I kept all my other pieces low key so the outfit still fits with my tailored style.
First, I chose a simple three-quarter length shirt in a dark color. This helps to anchor the outfit without adding any additional width on top. I also made sure that the shirt fit close to my body without being too tight.
If you have ever worn Palazzo pants before, then you know the top of the pants usually consists of a large fold-down piece. Quite frankly, I don’t get the point of this feature. In fact, I ended up cutting the top off of my pants after I took these pictures because I could never get it to fold right. Not to mention, this fold can add considerable width around the tummy section, which is why it’s important not to go too tight with your top. On the other hand, you don’t want the shirt too wide at the bottom or the whole outfit just makes you look, well…wide (and none of us want that).
Since the palazzo pants already had a design at the bottom, I chose a simple pair of sequined flip flops.
Finally, I topped off the look with some red accented jewelry. The bangle bracelets echo the Eastern vibe of the pants.
It’s always good to step out of your style box every now and then to try something new, but that doesn’t mean you need to abandon your own style vibe. Instead, you just need to figure out how to make a new style work for you. When’s the last time you tried something new?
Now, I’ve shown you my style and it’s time for you to show me your’s. Let’s get to the My Refined Style Linkup!

I feel the same about palazzos, but they look so comfy. Love the bracelets!
Thanks Stephanie!
Yes, yes I love the palazzo pants. I’ve got a couple of pairs hanging up in my wardrobe, maybe needing a less summery pair for the AW season. I like your look for these it’s perfect. Jacqui

Thanks Jacqui!
Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. These pants are so great for vacation.
They really are!
I love how you’ve styled these trousers with a simple black top and flipflops to pick up on the black on the hem. The red earrings and bracelets really compliment the outfit 🙂

I don’t have any palazzo pants, but they look so comfortable and stylish and would remind me of being on a tropical vacation!
Yes, I think they would travel very well, Colleen.
I have a pair of palazzo pants that I love (and they don’t have the fold down piece, which is a big plus, I think. But there are of course always scissors…). Your paints have a very pretty print, and I think you styled them perfectly. The top is perfect – loose enough but not too loose. And the accessories you chose are fabulous, too. Very nice outfit that is a bit different than your usual outfits but still you!
I had to get rid of that thick waist band and then they were much better.
I really like the smaller overall print of your palazzo pants and the bold hemline print. Styling these pants simply, as you did, seems key. I have one pair of these pants and have only worn them once. I think I may try them again with a tee like you did here and see how it goes.
I’m thinking you could rock this look, Jennie.
I’ve resisted this style too. I have a couple of pair of silk pants that I like and tend to wear when I travel, but I wouldn’t call them Palazzo pants because the legs are not as wide. I’m more comfortable wearing these instead. Love how you styled yours.
Thanks Amy, just keep doing what works for you!
The print on these palazzo pants is gorgeous! Love this easy breezy chic look. Thanks for the link up!
