Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch in Cebu, Philippines provides a home for children rescued from sexual abuse and exploitation. Founded in 1995, Happy Horizons has rescued hundreds of children from desperate situations and set them on a journey to freedom.

Currently, 45 children, mostly girls, receive warm beds, daily meals, Christian education, medical care, and counseling to overcome the trauma of past abuse. A team of social workers manages their court cases, which run the gamut of sexual exploitation. Their ultimate goal is to equip these children with the necessary tools to build successful lives, and set them on the road to full freedom in Christ. The high profile nature of these court cases makes it unsafe for the children and social workers to use public transportation. In the past, family members of the abusers have threatened the children. In fact, some children have found themselves riding on a bus with the abuser’s relatives, which at times can be the child’s own family members. One can only imagine how traumatizing it can be for a child to hear angry words and accusations pressuring them not to testify.

Until now, Happy Horizons had no choice, but to use public transportation because of the high cost of private transportation. Once the child has testified, she can also leave immediately without waiting around for a bus in a crowd of people.
