Winter Layering, try a skirt over leggings for fashion over 40

I hate to be cold! Consequently, I am always looking for creative ways to keep warm and stylish at the same time with some winter layering. I wore this asymmetrical skirt a few months ago in a previous post. It is so comfortable and I thought it would work just perfectly with leggings.

Skirt Over Leggings

Of course, the style world is abuzz with leggings these days. I see them in every conceivable pattern and color. Still, I prefer to keep things simple and polished by sticking with classic black.

The asymmetrical skirt and leggings give enough interesting detail to the outfit, so I chose to keep everything else pretty simple by adding a black tank and denim jacket.

Then, I added my signature silver and stainless jewelry pieces. However, I did go a little unexpected with the crystal hoop earrings. I thought these blingy earrings added a nice punch to the otherwise simple fabrics.

It’s Nice To Be Back

It’s nice to be back on the blog after a considerable break. First, I spent several weeks enjoying my college kids while they were home on break. This wonderful time was followed by an equally unwelcome time of cleaning up our rental house that was left trashed when the renters moved out unexpectedly.

During these last weeks I did some soul-searching in terms of my blogging and even toyed with the idea of giving it up all together. However, I never had a peace about dropping off the blogging grid. Finally, I decided to continue with the blog and find a way to integrate it into my life; instead of the other way around. So, you’ll still see me around with an occasional break here and there.

    You always inspire me with the ways you incorporate leggings with your skirts and dresses. Another great combination, Shellie! I hope you enjoyed your children while you were on break. I know there are times I just need to step away and I don’t feel in the least bit guilty when I do. This is a hobby for me and I want it to remain fun. Glad to have you back!

    Welcome back, I have missed your posts! So happy that you decided to continue with blogging!! I know we all go through those times of wondering. Sometimes, I wonder if anyone is really reading. You have a way with words and I love your fashion style, as well. So sorry about the discouragement coming from those renters. That’s terrible that you were left with a mess! I like leggings and would wear a skirt over leggings. My issue with some leggings is that they make my legs feel “funny” after wearing them. It depends on the material and the looseness of the fabric, I think. Love your look today.

    Shellie, welcome back and I am sure glad you decided to continue blogging. I love seeing what you style! I am a huge fan of skirts and dresses over leggings. While I do have some patterned leggings, I find that I reach for my black ones more often than any others. They definitely add warmth and comfort on cold winter days! It is kind of my uniform of late…leggings and a dress or tunic. You look fab, as usual! Have a lovely day.

    I think leggings are so much like tights that it’s an easy transition to put a skirt over them. Funny you post about this because I just did it for an upcoming post in February!! Maybe that’s why I love it so much, LOL!
