Spring 2016 Color Trends – Favorite Things
March 3, 2016How To Wear A Sleeveless Sheath – What I Really Wore
March 7, 2016I’m wearing the perfect plum color for Spring and I’m bringing you not one, but two fashion linkups in today’s post! Months ago I signed on to co-host Thursday Fashion Files and wouldn’t you know it…I picked the one Thursday in March where we also run My Refined Style.
Soooo, you can just count yourself doubly fortunate to have twice the fun this week! Make sure to scroll all the way down to catch all the fashion goodness I’ve got to share with you today in both linkups.
Perfect Plum Color For Spring
Spring is in the air and for some of you snow bunnies it’s not a minute too soon! This is that funny time of the year when you are itching to break out your warm weather clothes, but the elements don’t always want to cooperate. Plum is the perfect color for this time of the year because it has the depth of winter, but also the floral notes of Spring.
For this everyday casual look I chose a peter pan color top and dark washed denim “skinny” jeans. Here’s a tip for wearing skinny jeans over 40. Skinny jeans don’t have to cut off your circulation to be flattering. In fact, they are much more flattering when they don’t cut deep creases into your leg. Choose a light-weight fabric with some stretch that skims the body instead of clinging to it.
The accessories carry the plum notes throughout this outfit. You’ll notice that I’m wearing the same multi-colored belt that I wore in a post earlier this week. Do not be afraid to purchase vivid, multi-colored accessories. You will be surprised how easy they work with multiple outfits when your wardrobe pieces are kept classic.
It’s hard to believe we’ve already arrived at week six of the My Refined Style Fashion Over 40 Linkup…my how time flies when you’re having so much fun!

With the warmer weather coming, I’ve been all about the shoes lately. I’m so tired of boots! These pairs are gorgeous! Thanks for linking-up with Carrie and me this week!
It’s funny, when cold weather starts, everyone is ready to pull out their boots and then by Spring we’re ready to get them off!
Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. Your shoes are awesome!
I freaking love plum and I tell you, I don’t think I have met an older woman who that colour does not flatter. You look gorgeous as always! Thank you for participating in #blogsharelearn
Thanks for throwing such a great party, Elena!
I love casual, but your wedges are so dang cute with your outfit, love the pop of color!!
Yes, the color of those wedges is a show stopper!
Such a pretty color!
Thanks Amy!
Shellie I adore that top… It works so well with the necklace chains (must remember that)! Good point about skinny jeans too, I’m slowly backing away from the tight skinnies 😉
Thank you so much for hosting, have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Catherine. I still wear the skinny skinny jeans, but the looser ones sure feel a lot better!
I love peter pan collar detail on that top! Those bright pink wedges are really cute too! Thanks for co-hosting with us this week!

I love your look, and you summed up the weather this time of year perfectly–I want to wear all the spring things but the weather doesn’t always cooperate. Love those adorable flats!
Thanks Shea…yes, this seasonal transition time takes a little finesse to pull off.
Oh, I really like this pretty top, Shellie! It looks so great styled casually. Also your wedge sandals are a beautiful color.
Of course you would love the color, Jennie. You always do such a great job of pulling out vivid colors in your outfits!
