On a recent visit with my mom, I ventured out in an ombre linen button-down shirt for a day of shopping. I was so proud that she successfully snapped these pictures! And yes, my head and feet made it into every frame, so if you don’t see my head it’s because I myself chose to crop it off during editing.

Linen Button-Down Shirt

This is one of my favorite go-to, casual looks. I often choose button-down shirts because they add instant structure to my look. Linen is a natural fabric, so it still breaths in the summer when temperatures are still high.

I was especially drawn to the lovely ombre color of this shirt.

If you are short-waisted like me, make sure to purchase your button-down shirts in the Petite section. This length of this shirt is perfect and balances out my proportions. Also, check out these tips for wearing bermuda shorts.

Tips For Choosing The Perfect Button-down Shirt

  • When wearing a button-down shirt over jeans or shorts, the perfect length should hit about 3″ above the inseam.
  • Three-quarter length sleeves give a balanced look. Otherwise, a long sleeved shirt end slightly below the bend of the wrist.
  • Make sure your button-down does not gape at the bust. If you are large busted, wear a camisole underneath and unbutton the top three buttons. Or, try buttoning the middle two buttons while keeping the top and bottom buttons undone…this provides definition at the waist while allowing more freedom of movement.

As always, I like to add a little icing to every outfit, even when it’s a casual one. I chose some of my favorite stainless/silver jewelry and then a cut pair of Lucky Brand mint sandals.

I picked up this ombre linen shirt on clearance at Belk. Unfortunately, they don’t have this style anymore, but I did find a similar linen shirt on sale for $5.49 if any of you wear a size small!
