Painted Toes – Favorite Things
April 28, 2016Change Is Coming – Favorite Things
May 5, 2016Let’s talk about wearing short dresses after 40.
Wearing Short Dresses After 40
My favorite dress or skirt length is just below the knee cap. This length is the most flattering and proportional for my figure. However, I don’t like the idea of closing myself off to other options; especially when I find something fun on sale!
I found this cute dress on sale at Express (similar dress here), but it was considerably shorter than I prefer to wear. So, I added leggings to make a cute outfit.
The thin yellow belt lends a pop of color to this monochromatic scheme. I could also have layered some slim black pants underneath…then, I would have added a heavier belt to balance the look.
I wore a black half-camisole underneath to provide better coverage at the top and around the arm holes. This helps eliminate “sleavage” as my friend Jennifer, from A Well Styled Life likes to call it!
I chose a pair of heavy strapped sandals to finish off the look.

Its a great option – In my case, when a dress is too short I stick to flats and tights.
I love the tights option as well, Lorena. It just doesn’t work too well in a tropical climate…I have to let my feet breath 😉
You look so nice with this type of outfit. Love your blog. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Diane!
Such a cute look! I really like how you made this work for you. I now want to add some capri length leggings to my spring and summer wardrobe. 🙂
Yep Jennie, it’s all about making it work ;)!!
Love what you did with the leggings. Cute idea. I just wish I could find more clothing with a sleeve, I like your friends word “sleavage”. lol
Yes, I know sleeveless is not for everyone. Typically, I end up wearing a jean jacket or sweater anyway because I get cold inside. Thanks for stopping by to say hi!
Nice dress, and I like how you made it work for you. I often wear dresses/tunics with leggings and like the look.

Thanks Andrea! I think that’s an important thing about fashion over 40, you’ve got to find what works for you and go with it.
Great site to read, so good to link up, check out my blog, although for old age group, let me know what you think.x

Thanks Jacqui, I’m glad you stopped by! I will check out your blog as well.
Adorable dress! I’m struggling too with some dresses in my closet that now seem a bit too short. Good way to still wear them and not feel so shorty short!
Thanks Rosemond!
Great styling! I am not comfortable showing my knees (although I did today at Vis Monday) so I adore these capri tights. Thanks for linking, you look fab, xox
