Last Spring, I was just starting to get my feet wet with the whole blogging enterprise. Really, the only followers I had were a few friends and family members. I knew I needed to find a way to expand and develop my reader base, but I really didn’t know where to start.

Then, I came across Oh My Heartsie Girl WW and discovered that Karren was always open to new co-hosts, big and small. She graciously took me on as one of her co-hosts and this post marks one year with the Wonderful Wednesday!

Fond Farewell

A year ago, I kicked off my first WW post with, life is a party! And, I have so enjoyed co-hosting this party with you each week. However, I feel it’s time to step away as co-host of Wonderful Wednesday to free up a little bit more of my time for the coming months. Following our youngest’s high school graduation, we will be moving back to Florida in June. Right now, I am in the middle of packing and preparing for the move…phew!

I will still be keeping the rest of my blogging schedule and I hope to see you back again. Now, let’s get to this week’s linkup. Have a great rest of the week!

We are six weeks away from moving and no matter how much I do there always seems that much more left to be done. So, I don’t have any particular theme this week…just a reminder that life moves quickly.

No matter how busy we are, we only have one chance to live today! So, I’m thinking I should make this today the best it can be.

Today I’m feeling Suessical, as in Seussical The Musical. My daughter will star as Gertrude…the bird with the one-feathered tail.

I should explain that theatre productions have been a major part of our life for the last six years. We’ve seen everything from “Midsummer Night’s Dream” to “Grease” to “Annie.” If our kids were in it, we were there…every night. I’ve told them to feel fortunate that we never had t-shirts printed with their picture on the front that lit up when we pushed a button.

We have loved every minute of it. And now, here we are at our last high school play. I guess you could say it’s the end of an era and we’ve had a lot of those recently.

I’ll be there, smiling and holding my breath before she hits that high note. And, I think I’ll be packing some extra tissues too!

Spring ends up being an extremely busy time for the parent of semi-grown kids! With one in college and one finishing high school, I have been working on a mile-high stack of forms.

Semi-Grown Kids

This week I can actually breathe and say, “Ah, the kids are situated!”

• Taxes done
• FAFSA done
• Universities now satisfied that taxes and FAFSA were done properly
• Daughter successfully applied, accepted, registered for orientation and housing, verified as immunized
• Son successfully signed for a new apartment lease

Who knew how much paperwork could accompany one kid’s transition into adulthood?

I can almost hear some of you who’ve been there and done all of this saying, “Glad it’s you and not me!” and I don’t blame you one bit. Who knew how much paperwork could accompany one kid’s transition into adulthood?

But this week, I get to give myself a little pat on the back and a leisurely exhale. I’ll take it and rest up until the next wave of paperwork rolls in

Still despite it all, my husband’s still as handsome as ever, my kids are well-adjusted human beings, my car runs and my fridge is full…life is still oh so good.

Can you remember getting a hollow chocolate bunny in your Easter basket?

My husband came back from a short business trip to the US with a suitcase full of Easter candy. Now, I ask you, how much candy can or should two midlife adults and an 18 year-old girl actually eat? He said he couldn’t resist all the displays he passed in the supermarket.

Don’t get me wrong…this girl loves her chocolate, but this doesn’t exactly fit into my whole moderation lifestyle.

I have vivid memories of biting the ears off of my childhood bunnies in one fell swoop.

Of course, you know he had the Reese’s eggs; not to be upstaged by the Reese’s bunny. But then, he pulled out the hallmark chocolate confection of all Easter baskets…the chocolate bunny. Ah, the bunny, I have vivid memories of biting the ears off of my childhood bunnies in one fell swoop. Actually, those hollow bunnies went down fast once I got started.

But, this bunny wasn’t hollow at all! It was a solid slab of milk chocolate. I thought I would break a tooth trying to take a nibble off the ear. It may be a lot more substantial, but I think nostalgia wins on this one. Next time I pass an Easter candy display, I’m picking the hollow one…good memories, easier on the teeth and a lot less calories

Make small moments count…I need to keep reminding myself of this as I approach the next chaotic months.

I’ve got to wade through some major life territory in the next few months. My youngest will graduate from high school in June, which will set the stage for the empty nest in the Fall. As if that’s not enough to process, I must also navigate a major move that involves downsizing a sprawling family home to condo living.

Make Small Moments Count

During stressful times like these, it would be easy to project all my energy into the moving task at hand. Frankly, this undertaking could easily divert my emotional attention from the impending graduation. But then, I would miss out on so many precious small moments with my daughter.

This week we went out to dinner and then bought shoes for her upcoming prom. I so enjoyed hearing her talk about her life and I felt genuinely privileged to share that time with her. There were no bells or whistles; just mama and daughter over a dinner of chicken kebabs and rice. But, the moment was a keeper that I will look back on in days to come.

Life is made up of moments…some are big and some small, but all stand out in higher relief when recognized and appreciated for what they are. Don’t waste your moments, waiting for the next weekend or the next vacation. Instead, make small moments count and live each one as it comes…in the end, you’ll find out that’s the place where life really happens.

Unfortunately, the image of stacked moving boxes is all too familiar to me.

Stacked Moving Boxes

Now, every time I walk into the kitchen I have to pass a bunch of stacked moving boxes. It serves as a constant reminder of the inevitable chaos that will slowly settle upon me over the next two months.

I am not a stranger to moving. In fact, I have done it more times than I would like to count. But, nothing can insulate you from the process.

Add my youngest child’s impending graduation on to this and I can literally feel the physical anxiety of the situation. Oh, not to mention this little blog I’ve got to keep going through the whole process.

Here’s where the rubber hits the road! All of this is just too much for me to take, so I am going to have to release it all into God’s hands and ask him to give me the strength I need to take the next step. Oh, and I would love to have a few more brain cells to keep everything organized

How about you…do you feel, just a little or a lot, overwhelmed by what your future holds? Do you have your own pile of stacked moving boxes or some other image that serve as a constant reminder of all you still need to do?

In the end, each day only has 24 hours, so there’s no use in worrying about what will happen tomorrow or next week. Just take a deep breath and make a plan for today.

It’s amazing how a little bit of chocolate can give a little boost to any day. I’m sharing a little fun sized chocolate moment on this Wonderful Wednesday!

Chocolate Moment

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just need a chocolate moment! Last Saturday I taught another reading seminar to a group of 190 teachers. The seminar was successful and we ended up with around 40 more people than we originally planned.

But, by the time it was over I was tired and ready to make the 2 1/2 hour commute back home. We pulled into a rest stop along the way and I popped into the convenience store for a little something and there they were…Snicker bars!

I could have tried to convince myself that I deserved a king-sized. I mean, hey…I just gave 190 teachers valuable tools to help their kids read better! But then, would I be more satisfied with 10 bites of a king-sized instead of 3 fun-sized bites…nope.

So, I just chewed slowly and enjoyed my little fun-sized chocolate moment!

In this crazy world, it’s a special thing to receive the gift of time.

The Gift Of Time

Have you noticed that the older you get, the more you value the simpler things in life that money just can’t buy? Sunday night my husband walked in to give me a big fluffy chocolate muffin he’d baked for my Valentine’s treat.

That little gift didn’t cost him much, but his gift of time meant a lot to me. Days can fly by in a whirl of activity, so sharing your time can really stand out to those you care about.

Love and Valentines

Valentine’s Day is an interesting holiday to me. I mean it doesn’t really commemorate any special victory or event. It’s just a unique day for celebrating love and Valentines. And let me tell you, it’s a big huge deal here in Asia.

Now, I have no problem with acknowledging love. In fact, I enjoy having a nice dinner out with my man to celebrate the day each year. I guess I just like the idea of showing and sharing love each and every day, rather than saving it all up for one. But then, hey it’s an excellent excuse to eat chocolate!
