We were on our way to church last Sunday morning and the traffic was considerably bad. Now, anyone who knows anything about Manila knows that traffic is a particularly poignant consideration for those of us who live here. But Sunday, is usually our one day to get a little break from the throngs of cars.

Finally, we inched our way up the road to finally get a glimpse of what was holding us back…Sunday cycling! There they were…mamas, dads, grandpas and kids all taking a stroll down the main highway as thousands of cars whizzed by. This has to take nerves of steel. Not my idea of an enjoyable Sunday bike ride…how about you?

It’s not often that my husband and I have the chance to spend a day at the mall. We actually had a free Saturday, so we ventured through the Manila traffic to do some errands and a little shopping. While there, I got him to snap a few pics of what I really wore. I wore a top with a Peter Pan collar, skinny jeans and a black sweater. I bought this cute little top from Ann Taylor this summer.

What I Wore – A Day At The Mall

I like to wear my tops with a partial tuck-in. I prefer the partial tuck-in because it tidies up the front of the outfit, but still allows length across the back. The diagonal line is flattering because it makes the surface underneath, namely the backside, look smaller. It’s also a great way to show off a nice belt.

I love tops with a peter pan collar. These prim little collars have a way of dressing up an everyday outfit. I added a multi-layered black necklace to enhance the vertical line and then paired the blouse with a black sweater.

While at the mall I also got my eyes checked for my first pair of distance glasses. I told the optician I had to capture that look for posterity

During lunch we had a nice view of the Manila street below.

It ended up being one of those rare, perfect days with my man!

My week got started with a soaking-wet rainy day, which is quite common in this tropical climate. Often with rain comes flooding in Manila, so that meant a longer-than-usual commute home behind sedans who were frightened of floating away with like logs in a swollen river.

The funny thing is that rain means “party time” for kids. I snapped these pics of some kids making the most of the new “pool” in their front yard!

Me? I was just glad to get back to my warm and dry home! Enjoy your Wednesday and the rest of your week just like these kids enjoyed their rainy day!

Destination: MANILA, PHILIPPINES

  My family and I have lived as expats in the Philippines for six years. For the last four years we’ve called Manila home. The Philippines is actually an archipelago of 7,107 islands. Manila is the capital city located on the northern island of Luzon.   The metro Manila area, comprised of 12 defined metropolitan areas, has a population of around 12 million people within a 244 square mile area. To put this in perspective, my home state of Florida has just short of 20 million people in an area that covers  3,794,083 square miles.     Not surprisingly, the crowds are a prominent feature in the city as it is one of the most densely populated places on the planet! People are everywhere and typically they see to be traveling from one place to another.   Manila is infamous for it’s traffic, which is a conglomeration of cars, trucks, tricycles, motorcycles, buses and, of course, jeepneys. This is a far cry from the small home town I grew up in.     Jeepneys are the people-movers of the Philippines. The first jeepneys were actually repurposed American military jeeps left over after WWII.

  Filipinos love to be together and they love family. In fact, the word for home in Tagalog is “sa amin”; which means our place. The people have a fierce determination to overcome even in the midst of considerable hardship, an inspiring national pride and a fun-loving spirit that makes every day a party.   The official tourism logo is “It’s More Fun In The Philippines!” Check out their website to learn more about the exciting destinations there.   I live as an expat in Manila, Philippines and I love my adopted country and it’s people…Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
