Fashion offers endless creative possibilities. Every now and then I have some closet time where I play around with my clothes; mixing and matching them into different outfits. Today, I am sharing a fun redo – a maxi dress winterized.

Maxi Dress Winterized

I first brought out this maxi dress from Steinmart for a day at Seaside. I really like the high-lo skirt, which makes it a lot easier to move. The colors of this dress are work perfectly to restyle it as a winter look.

To “winterize” this dress, I paired it with a tapered black sweater belted at the middle (belt by Anne Klein). I like how the tapered bottom of the sweater mirrors the tapered bottom of the dress.

Of course, I had to add black leather boots to make it a true winter look! Then, I further accented the red with a Mango Touch bag and red coral necklace.

Finally, I finished the look with stainless steel jewelry and a beaded bracelet. The only thing I couldn’t add was the snow!

Today I’ve got some fun stuff to cover on my Monday fashion post. I’m wearing a colorful sheath dress over pants and I’m sharing my featured looks from the MRS Linkup (My Refined Style) #3.

I am writing this post on a Saturday afternoon as my son jets his way to us from the other side of the world. To say I am excited would be a major understatement! He is thrilled to get away from the “cold” Alabama weather and get back to the tropical weather he is accustomed to. I’m sure some of you are already shuffling through snow by now, so I thought you would get a kick out of that.

Colorful Sheath Dress Over Pants

A sheath dress over pants is a flattering choice for fashion over 40. The sheath dress skims over the body, while the slim pants promote a strong vertical line. Pants also work well if a dress is too short to be worn by itself.

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time, then you know how much I love to wear black. Not only am I fond of the all-black look, but I find that black provides the perfect contrast for any color.

This sheath dress is my final look from KASH, a home-grown Filipino company that designs feminine and affordable dresses. You can see some other fabulous Kash looks I’ve worn in previous posts: mod style and jewel-toned.

I have mentioned it before, but I will say it again. You will never go wrong with a quality pair of slim black pants. These Sloan pants from Banana Republic are easily in the top three pieces of my entire wardrobe. Select colors of these pants are currently 50% off.

Mod Print Dress

I am wearing a dress inspired by the Fall 2015 60’s Mod Trend. Of course, we plus-40 women are never slaves to any trend and most of us would agree that most runway looks were never meant to be worn by the average consumer.

But, we can definitely draw inspiration from them. Here is an example of a mod dress from the Valentino Fall 2015 collection. My primary takeaway inspirations are the print and vivid colors.

I am wearing a dress designed by my friend, Kasey Godoy. Kasey and I first met at the gym several years ago. Even though our lives and schedules took us in different directions, I have always kept up with her. A few months ago I discovered that Kasey and some friends had started a dress line, KASH. I love having an opportunity to showcase a budding Filipina designer.

Kasey creates simple sheath dresses that major on vivid colors and patterns. I was immediately drawn to this print shift dress because it evokes the 60’s mod vibe.

Apart from the gorgeous color, I like the comfortable cut of the dress because it fit loosely, yet still tapers in at the knee to provide a flattering line. The cut and style of the dress is equally suited for neutral heels or flats.

I followed the patterned motif of the dress by adding a Fossil stainless steel necklace with a similar pattern.

For another look I chose a silver tassle necklace (Jones New York), silver bangles (Brighton) and stainless steel rings (Fossil).
