I know some of you are really cooling off, but things are still sizzling in Manila. As much as I’d like to pull out some boots and a sweater, it’s still short sleeves for me. Black, white and red are undoubtedly my favorite color combo. I met a friend for lunch yesterday and I decided to keep things simple.

Here’s a look at what I really wore. I am a major fan of black and white, but my signature color is red. So, I often put these three colors together for my favorite color combo. Typically, I add red by way of accessories. In this case, I opted for my comfy red leather loafers.

I like to turn up the bottom of my jeans a bit. It’s nice to highlight this area because the ankle is the narrowest part of the leg.

I chose this top for a couple of reasons. For one, the horizontal strips are narrow, which keeps the pattern from adding width to my silhouette. I added a long vertical pendent necklace to further draw the eye up and down instead of side-to-side with the stripes.

The front also has a fun knotted detail. Most importantly, it skims my body rather than clinging to it. Fashion Tip: When shopping for jersey shirts, look for styles that skim slightly away from your body without adding a lot of excess bulk. Also, look at the back view when trying on clothes to see how they hang…you may not be able to see it, but everyone else can.

Today, I’m wearing a casual mall outfit in my favorite black, white and red color combination. Funny enough, I never really realized how often I wore this color combination until I started blogging. I guess it goes to show…when you find something that works, you should stick with it. As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it!”

I like this casual mall outfit because of it’s interesting play on proportions. In fact, this cropped bolero black sweater (similar bolero here and here ) is one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe. The sweater adds a vertical line to the top, which could otherwise add width with its horizontal stripes.

Then, the shorter proportion of the sweater adds nice contrast to the side knot of the top.

I added my signature silver and stainless steel jewelry pieces to enhance the clean lines and casual feel of the outfit.

These soft red leather loafers and red purse add just the right color pop to this otherwise monochromatic outfit.

One of the highlights of my trip to Singapore was an afternoon on Haji Lane. For the day, I wore a simple outfit with a black and white striped Calvin Klein maxi skirt. Since my free time was limited, I scheduled to meet an old friend Estu whom I had not seen in 8 years since leaving Laos and a new friend, Sylvia, the creative mind behind 40+ Style.

First, we met at Blu Jaz Cafe for a tasty lunch and got acquainted. Sylvia filled me in on her start into the world of blogging for women over 40. She explained that she enjoys showcasing women who express their own personal styles in unique ways. On her website 40+Style, Sylvia highlights women of all ages in looks ranging from mod to eclectic.

At one point, I asked her if  was any easier starting a blog years ago before there were so many; she said there was already a lot going on when she launched her website. Her advice was that anytime is the right time to start blogging, if you have something to say!

Then we were off to explore the shops! Haji Lane is a charming row of narrow shop houses nestled within the city’s Middle Eastern quarter. The street was a fashionista’s paradise with shop after shop of boutiques stocked with finely made jewelry and accessories.

Apart from the shops, one couldn’t help but be impressed by the fabulous color displays! They were so vibrant that they sparked an impromptu photo shoot.
